MEGA (Sketch) DUMP!!

Hey boys and girls! I know what you're thinking, "here comes the part where he comes up with some stupid excuse about why he hasn't posted". Well guess what!? I do have an excuse!! And I think it's a pretty good one! I've been trying to move over to Tumblr. Not that I don't like Blogger, it works just fine. Hell I even noticed that it has a new layout so this might make what I'm about to say a moot point, but I find that posting on Tumblr is sooooo much quicker. It doesn't feel like a chore when I do it anymore. That was probably one of my biggest issues with posting on this blog (aside from the lack of drawing on my end, lol). But after a long hiatus, I decided to come back and update it because there's nothing wrong with having multiple blogs. Besides, it'll take me a while to move ALL my art over to Tumblr. Anyways, I'll stop boring you with the details and get into good stuff. Something you'll start to notice with this post is that I've been finishing/coloring my drawings a lot more lately. I find that it's good practice for my overall skill and for my bad habit of not seeing things through when it comes to my art. Not that there's anything wrong with leaving things in a sketchy phase, but every now and then, you gotta stop conceptualizing and just finish it. Mortal Kombat style!!

OK, Art Time!

DISCLAIMER: I like Astro Boy. I have nothing against the character, and I know Mega Man probably wouldn't exist if tit wasn't for him. With that being said, I still think Mega Man is way cooler, and since I've gotten into numerous "debates" with my friends about it. I felt it was time for me to up the ante ;)
I didn't want to spend to much time on this, so I left the line art in a Rough Clean state. This was really more about getting the idea out of my head, and adding a little bit of color and shading to spruce it up.

I drew this one up for Halloween 2012, but I had never gotten around to finishing it until recently. If you haven't figured it out, it's me as Terry Bogard. He's easily one of, if not my favorite fighting game character, and since I had no idea what to go as for Halloween last year, I picked him. I tried to emulate Paul Robertson's style for this one because his 8-bit art style goes oh so well with anything video game related. I find it's also very reminiscent of one of SNK's biggest titles, Metal Slug. I'm really happy with how it turned out, but I'm particularly proud of the background on this. I wanted to do something more stylized than just a gradient or white backdrop, so I had the idea of incorporating most of Terry's very quotable lines with his white star logo.

I did this one 12 hours before Valentines day so I could post it up on Facebook for my girlfriend to see. I went for a greyscale look with hints of color to A) try something new and B) save time! I'm happy to report that she liked it. And so did my friends who decided to spoof the drawings with hilarious versions of their own. I'll put em' next time.

This drawings was part of a 30 day challenge myself and bunch of other artist I've met through work or school participate in. The month of December was winter themed, and different days would have us draw different things to fit said theme! I only manged to finish 2 days; Sweater and Snow Fight. So I decided to have the Hulk wearing one of those tacky, itchy sweater that never seem to rip. As for the snow ball fight, I had Korra and Sub-Zero duke it out in a friendly sparring match. Both drawings where fun to work on. The snow ball fight was particularly challenging due to the snow effects and all the tiny details I had to color on Sub-Zero! I think I'll just draw them naked next time, lol.

Now this drawing was really cool to work on. It was another 30 day challenge submission, this time for the month of October, so it was Halloween/creature themed. The day I chose was mermaid/merman but I wanted to do something more bad ass. I'm really happy with how this one turned out. It gave me a chance to step out of my comfort zone a little and try something different.

I think I drew this when I was on my way to visit my friends in Vancouver. I originally wanted to draw a curvy girl walking, and it somehow turn into Ninja lady with a kunai in hand, and her boob showing. Clearly, I was channeling my inner 14 year old for this one :p

Just a quick sketch of my lady sans bra. Curvy girls FTW!

It's been years since I've drawn Goku, especially as a kid, so I felt it was time to show him some love! If I had to fix one thing on this drawing, it would be the arc his tail has... Yea, I'm gonna have to go back to this one and reverse the arc.

I was messing around with the marker brush on Sketchbook Pro and ended up with a Superman drawing.

I drew this last summer as joke to my friend. So suave!!

That's all she ( i mean he) wrote folks! If you took the time to look and read through all of this  you're either really bored or have a better attention span than me. Or maybe, just maybe, ya liked what you saw. In any case, thanks for taking the time to look at my stuff. Be seeing ya! :)

A quickie

Hey guys! Just wanted to post a quick little animation I did the other night before going to bed. I was fiddling with this free Animation software called Pencil! It doesn't have all the bells and whistle that Flash or Toonboom offer, but it's straight forward and easy to pick up if you just want to do lil' somethin' somethin'. I can see this coming in handy when I'm on the go and want to animate on my Tablet PC instead...that is once I get the drivers to work. Fraking drivers!!

Oh, and the other video is another quick animation I did butI used Flash that time!

Step by step!! ...Oooo baby!!

Wow! Two blog posts back to back!? I know...that shit cray! Anyways, I just finished up another drawing of Black Ninja, but I decided to do a little step by step process since I've never done one before. I won't go into excruciating detail because...well, that takes to long. So I'm just gonna post up the drawings and call it a day.

Step 1-2: This drawing started with a little warm up. Once I found the pose i liked most, I blew it up, cleaned up a little, and added some structure and minute details.

Step 2-3: After I was satisfied with the rough, I cleaned it up, but instead of adding some color, I added the shading and eyes instead. I though it looked really cool, and I was gonna stop there...

...I didn't.

I had a lot of fun doing this one, and it went a a lot faster now that I knew what he was gonna look like, and I think the pose and overall drawing is stronger than the previous one. Well I'm off to go play some games or something! Deuces!!

Back in Black

What's good party people! Just had the laziest/ "productive" Saturday. I spent the entire day drawing in my pee jays on a diet of pizza and beer. Life is good!

I had a long discussion about all my story ideas with my buddy Shawn the other night. We mostly talked about how I haven't been working on them all that much as of late and that I should stop ignoring them like they where neglected step children. So I pretty much spent the entire day sketching and trying to redesign my first created character; Black Ninja!

I won't go into detail about the actual story (maybe next time) but the initial concept was based off my ninja Halloween costume my grandmother made for me 15 years ago! I've done a bunch of designs for this character over the years, so I tried to bring it back to it's initial roots. The original costume was black and yellow hence the color scheme, but I tried to give it a few traditional ninja elements like the fishnet shirt and tabi boots. I use to draw him a lot with a long red scarf, but that's been done to death with other ninja designs so I decided to forgo the scarf and give him a nice ripped hoodie instead.

This is far from being the final draft of the character as I'm sure I'll find areas to make the design stronger, but I'm happy with it overall. It's like I'm saying hello to an old friend :)

Later guys!

Enter 2012!!

Happy New Year Guys and Gals!! I hope everyone had a wonderful 2011 send off and welcomed 2012 with roar!! The last 6 weeks of 2011 where pretty damn cool. I got a new Cintiq and I've been drawing on it non-stop. Eliminating the whole scanning process is such a blesing. I just open up photoshop, start doodling, and if I draw something I like, I blow it up, make my fixes, clean it up, color it and voila! A finished drawing. I can't wait to revisit some of my old drawings and finally give them a proper polish! But until that day arrives, I'll just show you guys the drawings I've been working on over the holidays:

1) The first drawing was a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. She was a Santa to a lot of ppl this year (including myself) so I decided she should look the part!

2) Second drawing was for my friend Liz! It was her birthday and I wanted to do a little something special. Also, one of my friends has been doing this for a lot of our friends lately so I decided to do the same. As for the hash-tag, she's a Nurse; and as you all know, Nurses are Bawlin'. They Bawl so hard that some might even say Mother F*ckers want to fine them. True Story.

3) Some of you might recognize this drawing. I drew it up for my buddy John a couple of years ago, and finally got around to finishing it, thus living up to my promise I made to him years ago! Also, check out his music. The man knows his stuff!!

Well, that's all for now. I gotta go back to cleaning my room and taking care of some loose ends before I start work tomorrow. First day at a new studio! Laterz!!

I come bearing Art Stuff!

What's up party people. I got some new artwork to show you and now that have some free time, I felt it was time to post it! But first and update. I got a Tablet PC, and took my first major step into the digital medium! Now I get to sketch, animate and post it up without the use of my scanner! I'm hoping it makes the whole posting on my blog thing a little easier and less time consuming. Alright, let's get to it:

I had a chance to work on a traditionally animated show for a few months, and got to work on a test for a fighting game. While I didn't land the fight game gig, working on both those projects helped rekindle my love for traditional animation. So consider this little 2 second clip the first of many more to come. I realised that doing action is what I love and that's the path I want to take with my career! I'll be cleaning up this piece in the weeks to come, but for now; enjoy a naked blue man doing a Kamehameha Wave!

He is vengeance, he is the night, he. is. Batman!! Just a few more weeks till Arkham City!! I'm as giddy as a school girl...pig tails and all. Hmm, I should draw that.

The next set of drawings where interesting for me. The first one was done for this project that was in development at a studio I worked for. They asked everyone in the studio to draw stuff for it to see what we would come up with. That's what I did, but I ended up leaving before I could submit it. The next drawing is of Sagat of Street Fighter fame. I usually draw the Shotos (Ryu, Ken & Akuma) so I decided to change it up abit.

Earlier this year, a buddy of mine and I where having a debate over who would win: Metabee or Megaman. We each did a drawing of them in combat; this is how I think the fight would play out. My biggest regret with this piece however, is that I was so focused on having Metabee lose and making sure he looked accurate that I didn't push the designs of either character enough. If I ever re-did this drawing, I would have more fun with it.

Here's a random zombie, cleaning while listening to music on his iPod.

And finally, last but not least, my interpretation of a Midi-chlorian. Also know as one of the dumber things to come out of the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. Acording to Obi-Wan, Anikan's Midi-chlorian count was OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND!!!

Haha! Full Circle!
