The Prodigal Procrastinator returns!!!

Hey wasup everyone. I'm back, with a nice lil' update, so I'll cut the chatter and get to the "good" stuff. COWABUNGA!!

I figured I'd start of with some Turtle Power. I used to be a huuuge fan of the turtles when I was a kid. Eventually, the Trasnformers won the battle of favorite childhood cartoon series, but the turtles will always hold a special spot in my heart. Leo was, and still is my favorite turtle. Why?? Because he had swords and he was the leader. (What can I say, I'm attracted to power). Raph is still pretty cool, if you're into the whole "I'm an emo guy who solves all my problems with violence" type. I like how they both turned out. I wanted to make them look more teen like, and incorporate the new 3D movie style in their desings, and I think the top Leo drawings shows this off best. As for Raph, well I figured since he's the most agressive and battle hungry of the turtles, I felt he should be bigger and have some battle damage on his shell...because he cuts himself. lol

Since we're on the subject of stuff I use to watch as a kid, let's keep the band wagon going with some more nostalgia inducing drawings. First of we got the Saiyan Prince, Vegeta from DBZ. I wanted to try and draw him in my own style. Not exactly sure what my style is yet, but if I where to draw him, this is probably what he would look like. The next drawing is of He-Man, the MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE!! *punches the screen* lol, anyways here's my take on the big guy, as well as his alter ego Prince Adam. I never liked the fact that He-Man and Adam where pretty much the same guy, but with a tan and less clothing on. It's as dumb as Clark Kent wearing glasses to disguise himself, no one would fall for that. So I made Adam a scrony guy instead. I plan on fleshing this design out more in the future.

Let's face it. It wouldn't be a Chris Gage update without a bunch of sketchs of Superheroes (and villains). I have a few plans for a few of these drawings: I want to color the Joker drawing, finish the Baman sketch and possibly color it as well. I also want to redo the Hulk vs Logan drawing because I really regret not fitting the Hulk on the entire page. I also really like how Superman's face turned out. I'm reffering to the one on the right by the way. I'm gonna keep experimenting with different head shapes until I land on something that I like.

One of the things I love most about being able to draw, is that I can draw myself doing the most amazing/absurd things. I can be a wandering rogue samurai in one drawing, or surf an explosion, on a surfboard made of explosion in the next. I really want to color the explosion surf drawing, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little intimidated by the amount of works that's gonna have to go into this! It's good thing I don't know how to back down from a challenge. Unless I'm being challenged to fight Brock Lesnar...I have a feeling I'd learn pretty damn quick.

Do you know what Pacman, and Robocop have in comon? They're both mercilless badasses with extremely high kill counts. Also, they are made of gratuitous amounts of win!!

And finally, some random drawings!!
That's it for this month folks. I really want to try and make one last post before A) My birthday, or B) the end of the year. Anyways it's late and my brain is starting to stugle to make words sound pretty and stuff...that made no sense. Bed now! BYE!!
...and may the Force be with you!

I swear I didn't forget I had a Blog!!!

Hey guys!! So this is the part where I appologize for taking so long to update and come up with some long winded excuse as to why I didn't, but I didn't think of one so instead you get Drawings!! Muhahahahaa!!! 20 pages worth!! Also...Street Fighter 4...

Awesome :D

Le Enjoy!!! (I'm french!!!)

So me and my buddy Lubke had a short lived sketch night a while ago (I think we where watching Invader Zim, so totally not our fault) In any case, we had to draw a cowgirl and a Sad Grave Digger. Then I decided to add Megatron being jumped by some old lady, because I don't think we give our senior citizens enough credit.

I love drawing women. I just wish I could draw them as easy as guys and the only way to do that is to practice practice practice. So I went straight to the source. To any aspiring artists that read this: LIFE DRAWING IS IMPORTANT!!! The sooner you learn this the better, trust me!!

See even after all that it's still not perfect. But I'll get there...or Die Tryin'!! (inside joke...don't ask. I've been drinking) Also the girl in the Marilyn Monroe pose is holding a gun incase you where wondering. When this drawing is finished her dress, which will be white, will also be a little see through so you can see her gun...or guns! HIYOOO!!! *self highfive*

Time to draw some dudes...doing stuff...all action like. Yeaaaaaa!!

Hmmm who's this handsome devil I drew? He looks so familiar. Oh well, who ever he is, I'm sure he is both awesome and amazing in bed...and according to these drawings, very athletic. :D

Anyways, I've always wanted to be a character in a Fighting game, so I drew myself as one. I'd probably do Taekwondo cus it's flashy and cool looking, and Kicks hurt...alot.

It wouldn't be Gage's Sketch Book Blog without the appearence of some men (and Woman) in thights. The Clark Kent and Logan drawings ended up turning out pretty good, so I added them to my portfolio (and few other pieces on here as well)

Here's a lil' somethin' somethin' I've been working on for a few years now. The concept is a super hero story set in a not so distant future. I wont really go into it now but my goal is to make this into a web comic (eventually), and if I'm lucky get it picked up as an animated series. The design of the characters are based off of people I know (friends and familly) so who knows, if I know you, you might inspire a character for this soon to be epic tale of good vs evil.
So that's all for today folks. I know I keep saying this, but I promise to do my best and update more freequently. Anyways it's late, time for bed.

First Post of the New Year!!!

Wow...WOW! 7 months. It took me 7 months (almost 8) to Update this page. I'm actually a lil' disappointed about that, but at least I've been keeping up with the drawing, which is why this is going to be a COLOSSAL post! I have a good 20 something pages, and that's me being selective about what i want to put up.

Before I start posting all these drawings, I wanted to say what an Awesome year 2008 was. Sooo much went down last year, both Negative and Positive. I wont get into it now since this a sketch blog, not a "this is what's happening in my life" blog. Besides, I don't think that the 2 of you who actually read this thing, care all that much. lol

So Without further adue, I give you: my soul... ok that was too deep. Here are my sketches Bitches!!

**DISCLAIMER**I probably wont be updating this page for at least a month. Why you ask? Street Fighter 4 Mother F***ers!! That's Why!!!

I can never get tired of drawing super heroes!! I really like how the Hulk's face turned out, and Wolverine overall look. Not sure who the unfinished guy was, maybe a reference point so I don't make Wolverine to tall (he's only 5'3. Anything else you hear is a lie!!) Fat-Batman make me laugh. I'm gonna have to re-draw him with a better background...and you know...better :P

Girls, girls , girls, girls. Girls I do adore. Except for that ugly one. I was thinking I should make my own pin up girl a-la Dean Yeagle (Really amazing artist. Check him out if you can). The naked girl was one of my co-workers idea. I was sitting at my desk, sketching (off the clock) but I wasn't sure what to draw. Him being a guy said I should draw some nekid girl. So I did. Turned out pretty decent. The shaded one was from a random camping trip. One of my friends let me sketch her. Also turned out good.

So remember how I had to do an independent film for my last year of school? Well I do. Anyways, when I first took animation, my initial plan was to do a fight scene for my film. Fast forward 4 years and I ended up with...my unfinished, dialog heavy, no fights film. Since I was a bit displeased with how it turned out. I decided to think up the film I've always wanted, but I still wanted to implement what my teachers thought me: Good original story, beginning middle end, all that stuff. So I present to you my concept art for my new independent film; "Cat VS Baby". The premise is pretty simple. Cat is jealous because baby gets more attention, so cat tries to kill baby, but Baby don't play that shit yo!

I gotta say, I really enjoy Drawing these characters. I'm in love with the baby's design. He's fun and easy to draw, and he has attitude (well I think so anyways :p ) I also like how the cat turned out. He looks a little old and disgruntle although his design could still use some work so he'll most likely be changing in the coming months, but his initial look, I like.

Good ol' Street Fighter. Can't wait for #4 to come out and let it consume my life. Mind you these sketches where done waaaaay before the game was even close to being released. I really liked how Akuma's overall look turned out in this one. If I could simplify it just a bit more, I might be able to make him animation friendly. Ryu's drawing was done near the end of my previous sketch book. I've been thinking of drawing him walk off into the sunset at the end of each sketch book, so I can compare how much better I get with each book. One of my preferred drawings actually.

Yay, random sketches of stuff. 1) I call him the Napalmer...get it. hahahah...so yea. He shoots fire, from his palms. I was trying to experiment and draw something completely different from what I usually draw. 2) This wonderful work of art came from when me and my friends where playing the game of Life. One of my friends wouldn't stop having babies in the game, another one of my friends said "She keeps farting out babies". I think you see why couldn't not draw that. 3) Ninja in his underwear!! 4) oh god, what the hell is going on here...ok we got: A Transformer, dude doing a Shoryuken, a giant Eye, Superman, Darth Vader, and some Chun Li's. Oh, and while we're on the subject of Chun Li, I gotta say, her new movie doesn't look that promising. Will it be better than the first street fighter movie? That's not hard to beat. Will it be a good movie on it's own? I doubt it...I really doubt it. Transfomrers 2 on the other hand looks effin wicked!!

Yay, more superheroes!! Now with more Villain! This bad guy over here is called Darkseid (no that's not a typo, his name is actually written that way) I usually give short history for characters but if I do I'll never finish updating this thing so click on his name. It's a link to wiki page explaining his origins. Now, Spidey on the other hand needs no origin explaining. We all know the story. I really like this drawing. I felt that considering the love I have for this character, I should have a good drawing to show for it. I can see a few flaws with the drawing now that the "honeymoon" is over, but I still like it. We'll see how I feel about it 6 months from now. lol

Ever wonder what would happen if Babies where actually evil and carnivorous...? Well I did, and this happened. Moral of the story: Use a condom!
Another evil character is Ryu, when he's possessed by the dark hado. I'm not even gonna attempt to explain it, so just look at the pretty picture and smile :D

Here are some character sketches for my web comic: The Summercrew. Me and a buddy of mine work on it and update it...every now and again. It's basically the story of us and our friends getting into random miss adventures. Check it out (by clicking the link).

More lovely ladies. One is from a story of mine that's in the works. The other is just some random naked girl with cloth.

...and finally, last but certainly not least, some forced perspective drawings. Forced perspective is a lot of fun, and siuts my style very well I find. (super sketchy) It gives it a very graffiti feel. I liked the first one so much that I decided to clean it up and color it using Photoshop. I plan on coloring the other one as well, and I plan on doing a lot more of these.

Whew! That's all folks. If you took the time to go through all of this then I really apreciate. If you have any comments or constructive criticism to give, don't be a stranger. I promise to post more often (it was one of my resolutions for the year) but like I said in the disclaimer, don't expect any in the following 4 weeks. Street Fighter 4 gets my undived attention during that time. Anyways see you all soon!!

I'm still Alive...

He he, remember when I said I was gonna be updating this blog weekly...yea...those where some good times. So here I am...a month 1/2 later with some new sketches. I've been keeping up with the drawing as best I can, what with working and graduating and all. Anyways, I wont bore you guys with the details of my life. (maybe some other time)

Here are the drawings:

Even Storm Troopers have friends...

No matter what you accomplish in life, you can never be as awesome as a ninja with an electric guitar! ...maybe Optimus Prime with an Electrical Guitar....hmmmm.

Some dude that does martial arts (most likely Taekwondo) I realy like how his body structure turned out. I was actually thinking of doing a series where bunch of teens practice martial arts and have them fight each other in school...then I realised there was a game like that out there called Rival Schools/Project Justice. The only difference mine would've had is more cohesive plot. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Sega's Blue Blur. Really he needs no introduction, but for those of you who don't know (shame on you) Sonic the Hedgehog's his name, and speed is his game. Wow, that was lame...I appologize for being so corny/ geeky. I'd like to say it wont happen again...but then I'd be lying to the 2 people who actually visit my blog, and that's not fair to you guys. Anyways that blue circle thing was my trying to do the spin dash he does in the game. I failed.

Here's another video game legend who shouldn't get an introduction, but will get one anyways. Capcom's Blue Bomber; Mega Man. What I really like about this one is that he's preforming an attack from one of my favorite animes of ALL TIME!!! Tengen Topa Gurren Lagann (really awesome show, anyone who likes anime even a little should watch it. Go on...I'll wait.) I'll assume that you actually stoped reading and went to watch the show to appreciate the drawing more, so now I can say this and not sound like an idiot...more so. Giga....Drill....BREAKER!!!!

A drawing i made for a friend of mine. She's the Booty Quaker. She makes earth quakes...by booty quaking... AND no! Her shorts aren't chapless or see through!!

Hulk vs Wolverine. Hulk wins. Wolverine wants a rematch...and just to clariffy because everyone who looks at this seems to think so. Wolverine is NOT checking out the Hulk's ass. On a side note, The Incredible Hulk (film) was Incredible...yea i made a horrible pun, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

Some more Video Game Legends. Ken and Ryu from Street Fighter. Here's the story behind this one: When Street Fighter 2 came out, they played exactly the same, but over the years, the developers have changed their playing styles. They're similar but different. Ryu is slower but has stronger single strikes, where as Ken is faster and uses combos to deal damage. I wanted that to be reflected in their designs so I made Ryu shorter and stockier to emphasize power, and slimed down Ken to emphasize speed and agility. I'm gonna explore this kind of approach again in the near future with more Street Fighter characters.

It's the Spectacular Spider-Man!! btw ppl, the web head's new show is really amazing...hehe. Anyways, that's what prompted me to draw him...well that and my infinite love for the character. What I would give to get a chance to work on any Spider-Man show, comic, movie and or game.

This is another reference to a game I play. Although it's not as legendary as sonic or street fighter, Bloody Roar is one of my personal favorite fighting games. You have these people who come from all different walks of life to beat the crap out of each other. The twist, or unique game play element is that your character can transform into a half beast/ half man, and really tear into their opponent. One of my favorite characters from that game was Yugo. He transformed into a wolf, so I just swapped Yugo for myself but kept the wolf morphing powers.

...and Last but not Least, is this little collage of all my favorite or most influential fictional characters. This is pretty much what runs through my head when I'm not thinking of food, money, girls, or the meaning of life...ok I made the last one up. Anyways, I have a little game for you: See if you can name every fictional character on this page. If you do, i'll give you a cookie or something...I dunno. Oh and you get bonus points for pointing out the 2 characters that I made. Leave your answers in the comments.

Well you've reached the end of the post. Congrats, it was a big one ( I really need to update this thing more often) Anyways, I'll catch you guys (all 2 of you) later. Peace out!

What a week!!

What a week this was. I got my marks back, so I OFFICIALLY finished college AND *Drum Roll* I got hired as an Animator, Yaaaay!! I start tomorrow, so it should be interesting.

Anyways, enough about my recent life changes, here's the art work:

These are the characters from my independent film. I'll upload it one day...when it's completely finished :p

Felt like sketching some spidey, interacting with people. The first one is with MJ, the second one is with my other favorite superhero, Invincible.

Hulk VS Spidey!! The Hulk's legs kinda bug me, as does spidey's torso, but I still like it.

Optimus Prime! I like the design but not the pose...and his pointing hand could be a little bigger. Oh well! "Autobots! Transform, and Roll Out!!"

Monkeys!!!! Don't ask why, I just felt like drawing monkeys...that moonlight as Ninjas!!! I think I'm gonna start drawing monkeys in different themes from now on. Cowboy monkeys, Pirate monkeys, Samurai monkeys. The possibilities are endless!!

So that's that people. See you all next time. Same Gage time, same Gage channel!

Proper Introduction

Allow me to re-introduce myself, my name is Hov... err...I meanGage, Chris Gage, and if you read the blog title or the previous post, this is my sketch book blog, where I'll be posting up some of my artwork. I'm hopping to have a new post every week, so that should force me to draw as much as possible.

I guess I cold say a thing or two about myself before I start showing you my stuff...

Point form time!!

-started drawing at the age of 10
-initial influence was Dragonball
-took a comic book art course at the age of 13 and touched on perspective drawing
-moved to Ottawa later that year
-went to High School where I would continue to perfect my craft on various handouts, tests homework and desks.
-finished HS and started taking Animation in College
- FINISHED Animation (just last week actually)

So there you have it, enough of this talking crap, here's my stuff:

As you can see I had women on the mind (when aren't they) Anyways, I wanted to practice drawing sexy girls, so this happened.

Ever wondered what would happened if Ryu from Street Fighter joined the UFC? Well I did, and you wanna know what happens? Pwnage, and Epic Crotch!!

Random Akuma sketches, because he's such a bad ass!! (and yea, i tried to draw myself as him...I have Akuma envy...stop laughing)

Yay!! I graduated!! Too bad the drawing didn't turn out as good. Oh well, live and learn.

What a Which!! I really like the bottom one.

So that's all for today kids. I should have some more stuff up sometime during the week. Now to attack my bed!!

Coming soon...!

Well I finally got a blog page for my sketch book stuff. I figured I would start one up now that I finished school. I'm hoping it'll force me to draw more often, not that I had a problem with drawing when I had free time before or anything, but a little motivation never hurts. Anyways, It's almost 5am so I wont be posting any artwork at this time. I'll do it later when I wake up, so stay tuned.
